3 Small Changes To Make Today For A Healthier You

Almost everyone can think of a way that they can be healthier in life, whether it’s quitting smoking, eating less sugar, or being more active. But while we know how important all of these things are, making big changes in your daily routine is much harder than you may think.

For those looking to slowly and steadily improve their overall health, making small, incremental changes to your lifestyle may give you a better chance of creating healthy habits as opposed to falling short of your lofty health goals. To get you started on the right track, here are three small changes you can start today to move toward a healthier you.

Eat A Protein-Rich Breakfast

We’ve all heard that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and that’s especially true for people who are trying to become healthier. This first meal truly sets the tone for the rest of your day, from what you feed your body to how much energy you feel throughout the day. For this reason, having a protein-rich breakfast is vital to maintaining your health for the next 15 or so hours you’re awake.

Allied Health Institute states that a great way to get protein in the morning is to eat eggs and toast. The protein found in eggs will help you start your day off on the right foot by providing you with what your body needs to function properly.

Get More Sleep

Not only does sleep feel awesome for you mentally, but your body needs to sleep for a decent amount of time each day in order to rest, recuperate, and heal itself. According to WebMD, not getting enough sleep can be detrimental to your overall health, mood, weight, and sex drive.

If you know you don’t get enough sleep regularly—7 to 8 hours a night for adults—try to make it a habit to get into bed a little earlier than you’re used to. While it may take you a few nights to get become comfortable with this routine, your body and mind will thank you when they’re given the break they need.

Stretch Throughout The Day

While most people think of stretching as something you do only in association with exercise, stretching throughout the day will actually help your overall health. According to the Mayo Clinic, stretching improves flexibility, range of motion, blood flow and more. Getting a good stretch in during the day will help your body feel more free and ready to move.

When stretching, make sure you focus on your major muscle groups and don’t bounce into your stretches. Bouncing could cause more harm than good. Also remember not to stretch to the point of pain. A good idea is to focus on active stretching, which is stretching through movement, as opposed to static stretching, which could result in pulled or strained muscles.

Trying to eat a healthy, protein-filled breakfast, get the rest your body needs, and stretch your muscles will help your body and mind get to a happier and healthier state. Make it a goal to implement these few small changes today.
